CEO of Write One Publications, Stefanie Newell also a writer, started Write One with the intention of the company being strictly a fiction publisher.

Newell says of Write One, “I had no idea that my fiction publishing company would assist writers with the entire process from manuscript critiques to book marketing. Everywhere I turned people were asking me how I managed to garner book publicity for my debut novel The Buzz. How I was able to get a celebrity to write the foreword for Pull Your Pants Up by author Bernice Harris? How I went about marketing our books and getting featured on radio and television and even in magazines? I realized there was an immense need to discuss what I feel has not been discussed enough within the literary community, and that is writers who release books (mainly self-published) that aren’t the commercial success they hope it to be.”

As Newell attended book signings and various literary events across the U.S., she noticed a common theme amongst conversations had by both new and veteran authors – book marketing. How do I market a book? How do I use social media to market a book? When should I start marketing a book? How do I garner book publicity?

Ultimately, a lot of the authors she encountered had underestimated how much book marketing and publicity would factor into the literary process. As a new author, she herself had underestimated how much time it would take to garner buzz for her debut novel.

Newell says reflecting on first year as a published author, “I have to admit, even I thought it would be relatively simple to sell a few thousand copies within a few months. What I hadn’t considered (and I’m pretty certain a lot of authors don’t) is that the landscape is different for new writers who have no fan base or previous books that prove their ability to write. I also underestimated how much time and effort is involved in marketing a book. After re-examining my marketing plan, I was able to garner publicity for my book and through book marketing and branding, begin the process of establishing my name. Although initially I had no plans of my company assisting authors with manuscript critiques and book marketing consultations, I fully embrace the new direction of Write One Publications. Not only is their a need, but I have always enjoyed assisting others through my successes and missteps. Essentially I have incorporated my experience from Corporate America, my education,  as well as my experience as a freelance entertainment writer to garner publicity and brand both my company and book.”
